NEW YORK (AP) - The NYPD is investigating the death of a pedestrian who was struck by a car at an intersection in the Bronx.

Police say the driver remained on the scene at McGraw Avenue and Unionport Road.

The 33-year-old victim was pronounced dead at a hospital shortly after the accident, which occurred at 11:30 p.m. Sunday.

Police say the driver was passing two double-parked vehicles when he felt a big bump. They say the pedestrian appears to have been lying in the roadway when he was struck.

Police are investigating how the victim came to be in the roadway.
