MERRIMAC, Mass. (AP) - State police say a 23-year-old Newbury woman was killed in a two-car crash on Interstate 495 North in Massachusetts.

The crash happened just before 12 p.m. Sunday in Merrimac.

Police say the woman was driving her car in the left lane, lost control and veered left into the median. She tried to re-enter the road, but swerved across all lanes of the highway and hit a vehicle that was traveling north.

Police say the car left the road and hit a tree.

The woman was taken to a local hospital where she died. Authorities didn’t immediately identify her. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
