SCOTLANDVILLE, La. (AP) - After an anonymous tip to the Scotlandville High School administration about a gun on campus, a 12th grade student has been arrested and taken to East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

WAFB-TV (https://bit.ly/1VNtmgd ) reports deputies responded to the school around 11:20 a.m. Monday. An anonymous person said a 17-year-old was in possession of a pistol on school property. Officials later found an unloaded .22 caliber revolver in the student’s book bag.

Sheriff’s deputies say the student told investigators he moved over the weekend and had put the gun in the bag. He says he forgot the weapon was there until he opened it and the gun fell onto a desk.

The teenager faces a charge of illegal carrying of a weapon on school property and violation of a weapon free zone.
