DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - The trial for a Des Moines man who is accused of slamming his car into a utility pole during a crash that killed his passenger is set to begin.

The Des Moines Register (https://dmreg.co/2169Mxg ) reports 24-year-old Troy Mure Jr. will face a vehicular homicide by reckless driving charge in the Polk County trial beginning Monday afternoon.

Mure’s attorney, Gerald Feuerhelm, says Mure waived his right to a jury, adding that it will help resolve the matter quicker if a judge reviews the case instead of a jury.

A vehicle driven by Mure crashed into a utility pole in November, ejecting and killing passenger Scalicity Boyd.

Mure previously faced additional charges of vehicular homicide by drunk driving and first-offense drunk driving, but Feuerhelm says the state dropped those charges.
