SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Utah has joined the Aerospace States Association, an organization that advocates for state-based aviation and space initiative.

KSL-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1oJnc6b ) that the Governor’s Office of Economic Development says aerospace is one of the state’s fastest growing sectors.

Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox will lead the new chapter of ASA, which he says includes aerospace industry representatives, lieutenant governors and governor-appointed delegates. While announcing the new chapter at the Capitol on Friday, Cox explained how the state partnered with industry leaders last year to create a program letting high schoolers graduate with a certificate in aerospace manufacturing.

Director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development Val Hale says joining the association will let Utah collaborate with other member states and have a stronger voice in federal aviation policy development.
