GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - There is a new baby giraffe at the Greenville Zoo.

The zoo announced that Autumn, the zoo’s 9-year-old giraffe, gave birth about 6:15 a.m. on Tuesday.

The zoo announced that during the two days following the birth the calf is being monitored by the zoo staff. During that time the staff will perform routine exams and determine the calf’s height, weight and sex.

The calf’s father, Walter, is being kept away from the mom and calf for the next few weeks so the baby giraffe can gather strength to survive the father’s curiosity.

The zoo is taking suggestions from the public for a name for the new giraffe through Feb. 11.
