WASHINGTON (AP) - Members of Congress from Ohio have introduced resolutions congratulating Mount Union for winning the Division III college football national championship.

U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan and Sens. Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman introduced the resolution in their respective houses of Congress on Tuesday in Washington.

The Purple Raiders beat St. Thomas of Minnesota, 49-35, on Dec. 18 to win their 12th Division III national championship since 1983. The school has played in the national championship game a total of 19 times.

Ryan says the team is the “perfect example of what success looks like on and off the football field.”

The school in Alliance has about 2,200 students.
