CONWAY, Ark. (AP) - A police officer has resigned after an investigation of a January arrest in which his weapon accidentally discharged.

The Log Cabin Democrat (https://bit.ly/1PUwkB4 ) reports that Kallen Lacy resigned Jan. 26.

Conway Police Department spokeswoman LaTresha Woodruff says Lacy had been on paid administrative leave since the arrest of a man suspected of shoplifting at a Wal-Mart on Jan. 3.

The department says Lacy’s weapon accidentally discharged after a police chase and during the man’s arrest. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Woodruff says Lacy’s actions weren’t in line with department procedures, but that criminal charges weren’t warranted because he did nothing illegal.

Woodruff says Lacy was allowed to resign in lieu of termination due to this incident and prior unsatisfactory performance.
