NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Police say three children were hit by a truck as they crossed a street in New Jersey’s largest city.

Police say twin 12-year-old girls and a 9-year-old boy were hit in the middle of the street when the light changed as they walked home from school in Newark on Tuesday afternoon.

Dozens of witnesses rushed to help the youths.

The children were treated for cuts at an area hospital and have been released.

Police are looking for the driver who they say stopped briefly before leaving the scene.

Investigators found the truck in Elizabeth and have towed it back to Newark.
