HIGHLAND PARK, Mich. (AP) - A fire destroyed a large warehouse building in the Detroit enclave of Highland Park, sending clouds of smoke into the air that forced some living nearby from their homes.

No injuries are reported from the fire, which was reported early on Wednesday. Crews from multiple departments responded.

Fire Marshall Jerome Brown says some nearby residents were evacuated as a precaution. The Detroit News reports about 100 people may be affected.

Tenants in the warehouse building included Reclaim Detroit, which salvages material from abandoned homes.

Explosions were heard coming from the building as the fire burned, which could be from tanks of fuel or other material in the building.

There was no immediate word of the cause. A nearby school was closed for the day as a precaution.
