MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Minnesota’s recruiting class contains eight scholarship players from the state, plus two natives who finished high school in Texas.

Eden Prairie linebacker Carter Coughlin headlined the local group that signed letters of intent Wednesday with the Gophers. The athletic class includes two former quarterbacks who will be switching positions: wide receiver Tyler Johnson from Minneapolis North and linebacker Kamal Martin from Burnsville.

The other Minnesotans: linebacker Thomas Barber (Plymouth/Robbinsdale Armstrong), wide receivers Drew Hmielewski (Marshall) and Philip Howard (Minneapolis/Robbinsdale Cooper) and offensive linemen Conner Olson (Monticello) and Sam Schlueter (Victoria/Mayer Lutheran).

Quarterback Seth Green (Allen, Texas) and cornerback Antoine Winfield Jr. (The Woodlands, Texas) also have strong ties to the state. Green played at East Ridge in Woodbury and Winfield was at Eden Prairie before moving.
