JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) - The Jackson Police Department is looking to fill its ranks with trained and certified police officers from other cities.

Jackson Police Chief Julian Wiser announced that his department is currently accepting applications for its Lateral Entry Program. Wiser, in a press release, said the department will be offering a $3,000 sign-on bonus for officers who are currently certified by the state Peace Officer Standards Training Commission (P.O.S.T.). Out-of-state applicants must have certification that is acceptable to the P.O.S.T. Commission.

Beginning salary for an officer with one year experience is $36,000 a year and moves up to about $43,000 a year for four or more years’ experience in law enforcement.

All applications must be filed with the Jackson Personnel Department by Feb. 26.
