ALLLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) - A man convicted in a shooting death outside an eastern Pennsylvania strip club three years ago has now been charged with assaulting a guard as he was awaiting sentencing.

Twenty-three-year-old Ulysses Rodriguez was convicted last summer of voluntary manslaughter in the January 2013 slaying of 21-year-old Tyree Wimberly of Allentown.

In December, while awaiting sentencing, Rodriguez was being taken to the medical unit of Lehigh County jail when authorities allege that he attacked and started choking a guard.

Rodriguez was sentenced last month to 10 to 20 years in prison in Wimberly’s death. He was arraigned Wednesday on three counts of aggravated assault in the alleged assault on the guards.

Defense attorney Phil Lauer told The (Easton) Express-Times that he hadn’t heard about the new charges and declined comment.
