WILKINSBURG, Pa. (AP) - A transit agency has scheduled a memorial service for a police K-9 fatally stabbed during an altercation with two suspects near Pittsburgh.

The Port Authority of Allegheny County says a procession of police vehicles will begin just before 11 a.m. Thursday from the East Busway in Wilkinsburg. The officers will drive to the Allegheny County Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial on Pittsburgh’s North Shore.

Transit police say the 5-year-old German shepherd named Aren was stabbed in the mouth by 37-year-old Bruce Kelley Jr. He was fatally shot by officers in the process. County police and the district attorney are reviewing the shooting.

Police say that happened after Kelley and his father, 60-year-old Bruce Kelley Sr. fought with police who found them drinking in a gazebo along the busway Sunday afternoon.
