MESA, Ariz. (AP) - A man who called 911 to report he had stabbed his girlfriend and then himself at a west Mesa park has been arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder.

Mesa police say 55-year-old Reyes Colvin Sr. survived the attempted suicide on Jan. 29. They say Elva Maddock died after being stabbed multiple times with a large knife.

Authorities found the couple in Maddock’s car at Kleinman Park. Colvin told authorities that he and Maddock had been arguing about other women on his Facebook page.

Colvin didn’t have an attorney when he made an initial appearance in court this week. He did not have a publicly listed telephone number either.

Further court proceedings are scheduled next week.
