PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Philadelphia police say an armed suspect is in custody after he aimed at an officer who fired but didn’t wound the suspect.

Police have yet to release the name of the gunman arrested shortly after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Chief Inspector Scott Small says police responded to a report of an armed man, spotted the suspect and gave chase.

Police say the man stopped and pointed the weapon at the officer, who fired one shot. The suspect then dropped the gun and ran away. Police say they found him in a nearby alley uninjured.

Police say the man was being investigated in connection with several robberies. Officers say they found his gun, a semiautomatic pistol loaded with 10 bullets, on the sidewalk.

Police haven’t released additional details Wednesday.
