ROCKY MOUNT, Va. (AP) - Police say an infant has been found dead in a commercial trash container in southwestern Virginia, and have charged a woman with illegally disposing of a body.

Rocky Mount Police Chief Ken Criner tells The Roanoke Times (https://bit.ly/1Kr446A ) that 24-year-old Katherine Dellis is charged with unlawful concealment of human remains, a felony.

Police say the infant was found in a trash container Tuesday and pronounced dead on the scene.

Criner says the medical examiner’s preliminary findings indicate Dellis’ pregnancy ended in a stillbirth.

Dellis was admitted with severe bleeding Tuesday to a hospital. Police said in a news release that Dellis denied giving birth.

Police say officers found evidence consistent with a birth at the woman’s home and relatives said one relative threw away soiled bedding at trash collection sites.
