TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Coach Willie Taggard points to one of the best recruiting classes in the American Athletic Conference as additional evidence USF’s football program is headed in the right direction.

The Bulls rebounded from a 1-3 start to finish 8-5 in their third season under Taggart, who won four games in 2014 and just two the previous year.

With dual-threat QB Quinton Flowers, two-time AAC rushing champion and leading receiver Rodney Adams returning on offense and eight of the Bulls’ top 12 defenders also coming back, Taggard focused on bolstering the team’s overall depth, signing a class of 18 that includes nine prospects on both offense and defense.

Other things to know:

Top 25 Class: No

Best in class: Darnell Salomon, WR, Miami, Fla., Central HS

Best of rest: Craig Watts, S, St. Petersburg, Fla., Admiral Farragut Academy; Josh Dunn, S, Lake Wales, Fla., HS

Late addition: Michael Hampton, CB, Tampa, Fla., Hillsborough HS

One that got away: Latrell Williams, WR, Lake City, Fla., Columbia HS

How they fit in: While Taggart feels Salomon has a chance to contribute right away, he noted there’s an abundance of talent in the class and he wouldn’t be surprised if other also answer the coach’s challenge to “come in and take somebody’s job.”
