EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - Concrete is still wet and crews are still working, but University of Oregon officials say the new softball stadium will be ready for the first pitch in March.

The Register-Guard reports (https://is.gd/J7vBW3 ) that the $17.2 million Jane Sanders Stadium is scheduled to be open March 24 for a faceoff between the Ducks and Stanford.

Construction on the new facility began June 4.

Athletic Director Rob Mullens says former Duck football player Bob Sanders donated a $16 million gift for the stadium and former softball coach and administrator Becky Sisley matched donations of up to $200,000.

Mullens says they have raised nearly $17 million in total and are working to find donors to back the remaining $200,000 to $250,000.

Oregon opens the 2016 softball season Feb. 12 at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Arizona.

This story has been corrected to show the name of the stadium is Jane Sanders Stadium, not Jan Sanders Stadium.
