SAN DIEGO (AP) - The author of the “pH Miracle” book series has been convicted in San Diego on two counts of practicing medicine without a license and acquitted on a third count.

The Union-Tribune newspaper reports (https://bit.ly/1oa0AM4) Robert Young was led away in handcuffs after the verdicts were read Wednesday. He faces a maximum of three years, eight months in prison.

Prosecutors said Young defrauded patients who came to his Valley Center ranch for pricey treatments with questionable benefits.

Jurors deadlocked on six remaining charges, including two counts of grand theft.

The 63-year-old wrote “The pH Miracle: Balance Your Diet, Reclaim Your Health” and other books. He promoted practices that he said could neutralize alkaline and acidity in the bloodstream.

Young’s defense attorney called the case an attack on alternative medical care.
