NEW YORK (AP) - The NYPD says the flat tires on a car parked in Queens led to an arrest and the discovery of several guns and ammunition inside the vehicle.

When plainclothes officers approached the car Wednesday night to investigate, police say they observed a man inside toss a gun on the front seat before running away.

They say all four tires were flat.

The suspect was caught following a short pursuit.

Officers searched the vehicle and found six guns, a large quantity of ammunition and marijuana.

The suspect, 25-year-old Terrell Smith of Queens, was arrested on charges of criminal possession of a weapon, tampering with physical evidence, obstructing governmental administration and assault on a police officer.

It wasn’t immediately known if he had a lawyer who could comment on the charges.
