MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - A movement seeking liberty-minded people to move to New Hampshire says it has reached its goal of signers who have pledged to move to the state within five years of reaching the milestone.

The Portsmouth Herald reports (https://bit.ly/20tfZbC ) the Free State Project announced Wednesday that it now has 20,000 signers. The project’s president, Carla Gericke, celebrated the event, which was meant to “trigger the move.”

The pledge says that signers will move to the state within five years of the project reaching 20,000 participants. It says that signers will move toward the creation of a society in which the government’s role is to protect the rights to “life, liberty and property.”

Officials say about 10 percent of the pledges have already moved to the state.
