NEW YORK (AP) - Attorneys say a New York police officer who accused fellow officers of beating him has been awarded more than $15 million in damages.

The lawyer for Larry Jackson says Wednesday’s verdict includes $12.5 million in compensatory damages and $2.6 million in punitive damages.

Jackson sued the city on accusations that a dozen police offers beat him in August 2010 after an armed man crashed a party at his Queens home. He says a brawl broke out after the gunman left, and that he was detained and received treatment for a broken hand while in custody.

Jackson sued in June 2011 on accusations including racial discrimination and assault and battery. The city has denied the allegations.

A city spokesman says the verdict is being processed and may be changed.
