AURORA, Colo. (AP) - An Adams County jury has convicted a 21-year-old man of shooting an Aurora police officer during a traffic stop.

The Aurora Sentinel reports (https://goo.gl/PH4Rk8 ) Jahvell Forrest was convicted Tuesday of several charges - the most serious of which was attempted manslaughter - for shooting Officer Ryan Burns in the leg in November 2014. Forrest is scheduled to be sentenced in March.

Burns was shot when he and another officer were walking to a car during a traffic stop. Police say Forrest fired several shots from the driver’s side window, striking Burns. One of the officers fired back as the suspect fled.

In addition to being behind the wheel of a stolen car, Forrest had a .40-caliber handgun and multiple active warrants for his arrest.
