SCHULTER, Okla. (AP) - A man shot to death by an Okmulgee County deputy at the scene of a tractor-trailer crash was facing a second-degree murder charge in the death of his wife.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says 53-year-old John Henry Neuman of Gore was shot Wednesday after opening fire on the deputy and emergency crews. The deputy’s name hasn’t been released.

The OSBI says Neuman crashed the rig in a pond near Schulter and refused to leave, then opened fire when the deputy told him to leave the cab.

The deputy shot Neuman, who fell into the pond and when emergency crews tried to rescue him, he rose and fired again. The deputy shot Neuman again and he was pulled from the pond and died at the scene.

There were no other injuries.
