JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri transportation officials say the westbound Missouri River bridge in Jefferson City on U.S. 54/63 will be closed for four months, beginning in April.

The department says the eastbound bridge will remain open to carry eastbound and westbound traffic.

The $7 million project will allow the state to do repainting and deck repairs on the westbound lanes. The exact date of the closure has not been decided. The project is expected to take 16 months to complete.

The eastbound bridge was built in 1991 and carries about 27,000 vehicles a day. About 28,000 vehicles use the westbound structure every day. It opened in 1955.
