HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - A new Pine Belt community dog park in Hattiesburg is set to open.

The Hattiesburg American reports (https://hatne.ws/1X5BWIm) the not-yet-named dog park is scheduled to open with a celebration Saturday.

Hub City Director Virginia Cheatham says everyone is invited to attend and bring their dogs.

Hub City Humane Society will have giveaways for the opening, which will also celebrate completion of the first phase of the park.

The humane society won $25,000 for Phase I in PetSafe’s Bark for Your Park contest. The first phase included erecting fences and gates, installing two gazebos and water stations.

Plans for Phase II, which will include things such as landscaping and an agility course, are underway.

Cheatham says the public can email park name suggestions to the humane society through Friday.
