MADRID (AP) - Spanish club Real Betis has signed former Brazil striker Leandro Damiao until the end of the season.

The announcement was made on the team’s web site on Thursday.

Damiao was playing for Brazilian club Santos and left after claiming he was owed salaries. The player took his fight to the courts but eventually reached a deal to be released by the club.

The striker played 17 matches with Brazil’s national team, scoring three goals. He was in the squad that won the silver medal at the 2012 London Games.

The 26-year-old Damiao helped Brazilian club Internacional win the 2010 Copa Libertadores and the 2011 Recopa Sudamericana.

Real Betis is 14th in the Spanish league standings with 22 points from 22 matches. It hosts Valencia on Sunday.
