VANDERBILT, Pa. (AP) - A southwestern Pennsylvania woman has been convicted of charges stemming from a fatal DUI crash in 2013.

The (Uniontown) Herald-Standard reports (https://bit.ly/23LG5pk ) 35-year-old Shawna Courie was found guilty Wednesday of charges including homicide by vehicle and DUI.

Prosecutors say the Vanderbilt woman’s blood alcohol level was 0.211 percent when the Dodge Neon she was driving hit a tree. That’s more than twice the legal limit.

Her passenger, 25-year-old Andrew Vrabel, died of smoke inhalation and thermal injuries when the car caught fire.

Defense attorney Rob Harper argued that the car’s braking and steering systems may have been compromised before the car went into the ditch. But prosecutors say she admitted to being drunk when she got behind the wheel.
