ASTRONAUT EDGAR MITCHELL, 6TH MAN ON MOON, DIES IN FLORIDA

Mitchell’s daughter, Kimberly Mitchell, says he died Thursday night at a West Palm Beach hospice after a short illness. Mitchell’s passing coincides with the 45th anniversary of the Apollo 14 mission, from Jan. 31-Feb. 9, 1971.

LIFE IN PRISON FOR MAN WHO SHOT WIFE, PUT PHOTO ON FACEBOOK

A judge in Miami imposed the maximum sentence Friday on 33-year-old Derek Medina. He was convicted in November of second-degree murder for killing 27-year-old Jennifer Alfonso in 2013. Alfonso was shot eight times in the couple’s kitchen.

2 MORE CASES OF ZIKA REPORTED IN FLORIDA

State health officials said Friday that a case of the Zika virus was found in Osceola County, outside Orlando, and one in St. Johns County, near Jacksonville.

JUDGE TO RULE LATER ON MIDDLE SCHOOL KILLER’S RESENTENCING

After a three-day hearing ended Friday, Miami-Dade Circuit Judge John Schlesinger said he will deliver his ruling Feb. 22 for 26-year-old Michael Hernandez. Hernandez is seeking to reduce the life prison sentence he is serving for killing Jaime Gough in 2004 in a middle school bathroom.

MISSOURI SUSPECTS LED POLICE ON CHASE; MAN KILLED, WOMAN WOUNDED

Escambia County Sheriff David Morgan said at a Friday news conference that a call at 7:56 p.m. Thursday alerted authorities to the armed robbery. Officers spotted the couple near Pensacola Beach, before they headed east, eventually ending up on Interstate 10 before cutting back toward Pensacola. Morgan says the couple held a family hostage in their Pensacola home before fleeing in the family truck.
