PHOENIX (AP) - Eastbound Interstate 10 reopened Friday morning after being closed during part of the morning commute due to an accident that involved several vehicles and seriously injured one person.

Eastbound I-10 was closed at 40th Street at about 5:40 a.m., near the beginning of the commute. One lane was reopened at about 7 a.m. and all lanes reopened by 8:30 a.m.

The Department of Public Safety said the motorcyclist was thrown from his bike when it experienced brake problems and went onto its side.

Multiple vehicles then swerved to try to avoid the motorcycle and its operator, and three vehicles which stopped were rear-ended by a dump truck.

The DPS said the driver of one of those vehicles was seriously injured, while the motorcyclist escaped injury.
