CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Police say a Charlotte man sexually exploited fellow church members’ children over a nearly three-year period.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Lt. Tom Barry tells local media that 39-year-old Nicolas Vasquez was arrested Wednesday and charged with 18 counts of taking indecent liberties with a child, eleven counts of first degree sexual exploitation of a minor and five counts of first degree sex offense.

Authorities say the four victims, both boys and girls, were between the ages of 9 and 12.

Detectives say Vasquez knew some of the victims through family relationships and others through being an “active member” at the Asamblea Apostolica Church in eastern Charlotte.

It was not immediately clear whether Vasquez has an attorney to comment on the charges.
