TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - The Natchez Trace Parkway plans a controlled burn at Tishomingo State Park next week, weather permitting.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal (https://bit.ly/1URw6J5 ) reports the prescribed fire is scheduled to take place between Monday and Friday and will help reduce fuel loading around park facilities, as well as restore the open woodlands that were historically present.

The burn will take place at milepost 304 in Tishomingo County. There will be several closures at the park during the burn: the Warrior Ridge and Tushka Run disc golf courses, the picnic areas at Pavilion 2 and Pavilion 3, and the hiking trail from the Haynes Lake dam to the Natchez Trace Parkway.

All other state park facilities will remain open.
