DEADWOOD, S.D. (AP) - The city of Deadwood is spending nearly $50,000 to replace more deteriorating logs in the grandstand at the Days of ‘76 Rodeo Grounds.

The Black Hills Pioneer reports (https://bit.ly/1Po05on ) that the replacement is considered an emergency by city officials. Historic Preservation Officer Kevin Kuchenbecker says the repairs are “essential to the integrity of the structure.”

The area to be fixed is near the location of a log replacement project done last summer. Kuchenbecker says the grandstand was built in the 1930s, and officials expect to continue to run into problems.

The current repair project is expected to take about five weeks.
