DEVILLE, La. (AP) - The Louisiana Fire Marshal’s Office says a 6-year-old girl died in fire that destroyed her family’s home and injured two others in a mobile home park in Deville.

Deputy Chief Brant Thompson said in a news release Jocelyn Ruiz died Wednesday night. Also injured were a 12-year-old girl and the children’s mother, Patty Ruiz.

Thompson said a neighbor called 911 to report the fire. He says flames were rolling out of the three-bedroom home’s windows and doors as firefighters arrived.

Thompson said Patty Ruiz rescued two girls with the help of neighbors before firefighters arrived.

The 12-year-old suffered burns to her arms and face. Patty Ruiz suffered cuts to her feet and hands.

Thompson says investigators are looking at an electric space heater as a cause of the fire.
