JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - The Jacksonville State Attorney’s Office says a 36-year-old man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of his 4-month old son.

Donald James Crystalus faces up to life in prison after pleading guilty on Thursday. Sentencing is set for March 28.

The Florida Times-Union (https://bit.ly/1PYAZ58 ) reports Crystalus was caring for little Gabriel and his 2-year-old brother while his wife was working on Oct. 29, 2014. The child was taken to a Jacksonville hospital. Officers were called to the hospital after health officials said the baby’s injuries couldn’t have occurred accidentally.

Crystalus told police the child slipped while bathing.

The child died two days later. Crystalus was arrested a few weeks later.

Police at the time said the child died of “intentional, severe physical abuse.”
