HILO, Hawaii (AP) - Police on Hawaii’s Big Island say officers have shot and killed a sought-after fugitive who they say was known to be armed and dangerous.

Hawaii County police say officers located the suspect’s vehicle early Friday at a fast food drive-thru in Hilo. Police ordered the man to exit the car, but he instead accelerated over barriers and drove toward the officers.

Officers fired their weapons at the vehicle, killing the suspect and injuring a passenger. The passenger was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. No one else was injured.

The identities those involved have not been released.

The officers involved in the shooting have been with the Hawaii Police Department for 20, 15 and six years.

The department will conduct a criminal investigation and an internal administrative investigation.
