SALIDA, Colo. (AP) - Authorities say a person riding a snow bike was killed by an avalanche near Buena Vista in central Colorado.

The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office says a group of snowmobilers near the summit of Cottonwood Pass heard a large avalanche just after noon Friday and went to investigate. They found tracks near the slide and notified a search-and-rescue team that was in the area for avalanche training.

Rescuers went to the slide and saw a snow bike ski tip sticking out of the snow. They then found the buried victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

His name and age have not been released.
