DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - A southwest Ohio man has been sentenced to 15 years to life in prison after being convicted of killing a roommate with a sword.

The Dayton Daily News reports (https://bit.ly/1THb3KQ ) 31-year-old John Cochran was sentenced this week. He was convicted last week after pleading not guilty by reason of insanity. Prosecutors say he used a sword to kill 52-year-old Mark Gershon in their Englewood home in May 2014.

Cochran says he’s deeply sorry for Gershon’s death and knows he did was a terrible thing.

Cochran must serve at least 15 years behind bars before he is eligible for parole.
