LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A man has been arrested in the dragging of a Lincoln police officer.

The Lincoln Journal Star (https://bit.ly/1RaGNaH ) reports the Nebraska State Patrol took 46-year-old Robert Mello into custody Thursday night in Nebraska City.

Lincoln police say an officer tried to arrest a man a little before 5 p.m. Thursday on suspicion of shoplifting. The officer reached into the man’s vehicle and struggled with him as he drove forward and backward, dragging the officer until the officer let go or was forced off.

The officer suffered minor injuries.

Mello faces charges of second-degree assault on an officer, theft by unlawful taking, failure to comply, resisting arrest, willful reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

Court records do not show an attorney who could comment on Mello’s behalf.
