SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities in Syracuse have arrested 27 alleged gang members in the aftermath of the shooting deaths of two young men.

The suspects, who police say are known members of the 110 Gang, range in age from 18 to 36, according to a list provided by the mayor’s office. They face charges ranging from violating a park curfew to second-degree murder.

One murder charge was lodged against Rashaad Walker, who’s accused of killing Tony Guyton, Jr. in November. That homicide and the shooting death of 15-year-old Zavion Escobar in October triggered the crackdown.

The sweep was federally funded through the TRUCE program. The initiative is an attempt to demonstrate to gang members that gang activity won’t be tolerated, but gang members can seek help if they want it.
