FAIRFIELD, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a man was driving drunk when he drove a car through the ground floor of an office building.
Fairfield police say a security guard working at an adjacent hotel reported the reckless driving around 3 a.m. Saturday.
The guard told authorities the car crashed into the office building’s entrance and continued down a hallway before it smashed through a glass door at the other end. The driver then drove away on Route 46 East.
Shortly after police arrived on the scene, the guard saw the car traveling on Route 46 West as it passed by the crash scene. The car was stopped a short time later.
Authorities say the car had fresh damage and the hood and the base of the windshield were covered in glass. They say the driver, 52-year-old Hackettstown resident James Feeny, denied knowing anything about the incident.
Feeny was charged with drunken driving and numerous motor vehicle citations. He was released on his own recognizance.
A telephone number for Feeny could not be located Saturday, and it was unknown if he has retained an attorney.
