CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Middleton Place on the Ashley River outside of Charleston is beginning its camellia season with workshops and walks through the plantation’s gardens.

Camellias, which bloom through the winter, are the topic of a workshop on Saturday during which visitors can learn about camellias from their propagation to taking care of the plants once they are established. There will also be a walk focusing on the camellias in the gardens.

Beginning next Tuesday there will be camellia walks every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday through March 19.

Middleton Place has more than 4,000 camellias, many of them more than two centuries old.
