CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - Federal officials say more than 55,000 New Hampshire residents enrolled in health insurance plans under the Affordable Care Act during the most recent enrollment period.

The 55,183 who enrolled will be insured through 2016. The enrollment period began Nov. 1 and ended Jan. 31.

Those who do not have health insurance in 2016 could face penalties.

During the most recent enrollment period, consumers could choose from among five companies. The number of plans for individuals increased from 42 to 43, while small business owners saw their options increase from 18 plans to 30.

Several companies also offered dental coverage for both individuals and small businesses.

Nationally, 12.7 million people selected coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace.
