NEW YORK (AP) - Police in New York City are searching for a man who they say robbed and then sexually assaulted a woman in the stairwell of a Bronx apartment building.

It happened shortly before 10 p.m. on Friday in a building on East 183 Street in the University Heights neighborhood.

Authorities said the man followed the victim into an elevator in the building. As the doors opened, he grabbed her from behind and assaulted her before taking cash and two cellphones. Police say he then forced her into a stairwell where he raped her.

The suspect ran off after the attack. The woman was treated at a local hospital.

Police say the suspect is around 18 years old and was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt.
