NEW YORK (AP) - A nurse at a New York jail has been charged with smuggling razors and synthetic marijuana to inmates.

Chantiel Cox was arrested on charges of conspiracy and promoting prison contraband. She was arraigned Friday on Long Island.

Newsday (https://nwsdy.li/23PJbJ9 ) reports Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas said the 25-year-old Cox delivered the contraband while dispensing medicine to inmates at the county jail. The Amityville resident worked for an outside company providing medical services there.

Cox’s attorney, John LoTurco, denied the charges. He tells Newsday the nurse is being used as “a scapegoat” for institutional problems at the jail.

Two other women have been charged with supplying the contraband to Cox.
