BOSTON (AP) - Election officials in Massachusetts are reminding residents of an upcoming voter registration deadline.

Wednesday is the final day to register for the March 1 presidential primary in the Bay State.

Secretary of State William Galvin says about 70,000 people have signed up to vote or changed their enrollment status through the state’s online registration website www.RegisterToVoteMA.com , which began operating last summer.

Galvin calls the online registration surge “phenomenal.”

Residents can also register to vote at their city or town halls.

Voters who are enrolled in one of the state’s political parties must vote in that party’s primary. Unenrolled voters can choose to vote in any of the primaries.

The first-in-the-nation primary in neighboring New Hampshire takes place Tuesday.
