MOUNT HOLLY, N.C. (AP) - A South Carolina man has been charged in a wreck that killed a 67-year-old man as he walked to a gas station in Mount Holly.

Police told media outlets that 52-year-old Jerry Pruitt, of Moore, South Carolina, was arrested Friday and charged with felony hit and run.

Investigators say damage to Pruitt’s Ford pickup connected him to the death of Jerry Meggs as several people called in tips.

Authorities say Meggs was hit Tuesday while walking in Mount Holly, and paramedics found him still in the road. He died two days later.

Pruitt remained in jail on a $100,000 bond and it wasn’t known if he had a lawyer.
