EDINBURG, Texas (AP) - A South Texas man has been sentenced to 70 years in prison for the fatal shooting of a neighbor while chatting through a chain-link fence between their homes.

The Monitor (https://bit.ly/1SUqSx5 ) reports 32-year-old Rodolfo Saenz of Penitas (puh-NEE’-t’s) was sentenced late Friday after being convicted of murder. Prosecutors say the January 2015 shooting happened as the men shared a few drinks.

Saenz testified that he was intoxicated and said the killing of his friend, 32-year-old Raul Garza, was an accident.

Prosecutors say the shooting was intentional after both men started joking about their wives.
