BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The Pearl River Wildlife Management Area in St. Tammany Parish will be closed due to flooding next week.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries said in a news release the area will close when the Pearl River flood gauge reaches 16.5 feet, which is expected to occur sometime Monday.

The gate at the entrance to the area, on Old U.S. Highway 11, will be closed and locked when the flood gauge reaches 16.5 feet. Included in the closure is the Pearl River-Honey Island Shooting Range, located inside the management area.

Increasing water levels in the Pearl River has caused backwater flooding in the wildlife management area. Once the water recedes, the department says it will inspect, repair and reopen the area when deemed safe for travel.
